How to become a member of Freemasonry?

Becoming a Freemason is a journey rooted in personal conviction and community. As stated in the Book of Constitutions, a candidate must be a "good and true man," meaning of good moral character, and of the age of majority (typically 18 or 21, depending on the jurisdiction).

The path begins with a sincere desire to join. Potential members are encouraged to speak with Freemasons they know and express their interest. Freemasonry does not solicit members; rather, individuals must seek it out. Once interest is expressed, the candidate will typically be asked to complete an application and undergo an investigation by a committee of the Lodge. If approved, the candidate will then be balloted upon by the members of the Lodge. If the ballot is favorable, the candidate will be initiated into the first degree of Freemasonry.
