Second degree Investature

Investiture with the apron in each degree is performed by the Senior Warden, who acts as the Master's delegate for that purpose 1. As the foundational badge of a Mason, the apron symbolizes the bodily organism; changes and increasing elaborateness in its form as a candidate advances denote the actual internal development taking place within his nature 12.

In the Second Degree, pale blue rosettes are added to the apron 1. These rosettes indicate that progress is being made in the science of regeneration and that the candidate's spirituality is beginning to develop and bud through 1. The color blue, associated with the sky, traditionally represents devotion to spiritual concerns 1.

Throughout both the First and Second Degrees, no metal appears upon the apron 1. This absence signifies that the candidate is theoretically divesting himself of all base metals and transmuting them into spiritual riches, a process that continues until he reaches the rank of a Master Mason 1.
