Major General Dr. Sir Syed Raza Ali Khan, Nawab of Rampur, served as a prominent founder and leader within Masonic lodges in India under both Scottish and Indian constitutions. He was enrolled as the first founding member of Lodge Al-Ameen No. 1412 under the Grand Lodge of Scotland when the lodge was constituted in Mumbai on 7th February 1946, as an article on Lodge Al-Ameen's website records. At the consecration and constitution of the Grand Lodge of India on November 24, 1961, at the Asoka Hotel in New Delhi, Nawab Sir Syed Raza Ali Khan was installed as its first Grand Master by the Deputy Grand Master of England, as the Grand Lodge of India records. On this occasion, his Grand Master's regalia—comprising his apron, gold chain, and gauntlets—was presented jointly by the three parent Grand Lodges of England, Ireland, and Scotland, as the Grand Lodge of India notes. His tenure as the inaugural Grand Master spanned from November 24, 1961, to December 14, 1961, as the Grand Lodge of India states.

During his brief term as Grand Master, he deputed Deputy Grand Master Bhogilal C. Shah to inaugurate the Regional Grand Lodge of Southern India and install its first Regional Grand Master, as the Regional Grand Lodge of Southern India records. His legacy in Indian Freemasonry is also commemorated by a lodge working under the Regional Grand Lodge of Northern India, named Lodge H.H.
