A Master Mason can advance into several distinct rites, degrees, and sovereign orders.

In the Royal Arch, a candidate may join a Royal Arch Chapter four weeks after being Raised, which is described as the natural next step and the completion of Craft Masonry, as the Grand Lodge of India notes. Under the Grand Lodge of Mark Master Masons of India, Master Masons may also receive the Mark Master Mason degree.

In Cryptic Masonry, the degrees of Royal and Select Master—along with the supplementary Super-Excellent Master degree—are conferred in Councils governed by Grand Councils 1.
