What are the Grand Lodge Ranks

Grand Lodge officers govern the jurisdiction and ensure order across its constituent lodges. In the Craft, the principal officers of a Grand Lodge are led by the Grand Master, accompanied by the Deputy Grand Master and the Grand Wardens 1.

Historical regulations established in 1721 provide that the Grand Master or his Deputy holds the authority to preside over any true lodge in the jurisdiction, with the Senior and Junior Grand Wardens attending him 1. Beyond these executive officers, a Grand Lodge relies on an administrative and ceremonial staff to conduct its assemblies and carry out its statutes. According to Albert C. Mackey, these operational positions include the Grand Secretary, Grand Treasurer, Grand Marshal, Grand Standard-Bearer, Grand Sword-Bearer, Grand Pursuivants, Grand Organist, Grand Tyler, and Grand Stewards 1.
