How can a member be terminated by a lodge as per the book of constitution of the Grand Lodge of India?

A member can be terminated by a lodge through exclusion or expulsion, following specific procedures outlined in the Constitution. According to Rule 156, a Lodge may exclude any member for sufficient cause, provided that:

  • A notice in writing has been served upon the member not less than fourteen days prior to the meeting at which the complaint is to be considered.
  • The member concerned is given an opportunity to attend and be heard during this meeting.
  • Not less than seven days' notice is also served upon each member of the Lodge about the intention to propose such a resolution.

The name of the Brother concerned must not appear in the notice served upon the members of the Lodge. The voting for exclusion is by ballot and requires a two-thirds majority of members present to be effective. Following exclusion, the name of the Brother, along with the cause for exclusion, must be forwarded to the Regional Grand Secretary and the Grand Secretary.

It is important to note that the term 'expelled' is specifically used when a Brother is removed from the Craft by the Grand Lodge as per Rule 12. The process is quite strict to ensure fairness and proper notification to the concerned parties.
