How can a Brother be excluded from a Lodge?

A Brother may be excluded from a Lodge by a resolution passed by the Lodge, provided that specific procedures are followed. According to Rule 156:

  1. Notice in writing must be served upon the Brother being complained about, at least fourteen days prior to the meeting where the complaint will be considered.
  2. The notice must include particulars of the complaint and state the time and place where the Brother may attend and be heard.
  3. Members of the Lodge must also receive a written notice, not less than seven days in advance of the meeting, regarding the intention to propose the resolution for exclusion. However, the Brother's name must not appear in this notice.
  4. The voting for the resolution will be by ballot, and a two-thirds majority of the members present is required for the exclusion to be enacted.
  5. Once a Brother is excluded, his name and the reason for exclusion must be reported to the Regional Grand Secretary and the Grand Secretary.

It is important to note that only the term 'excluded' is used for a Brother who is removed from a daughter Lodge, while 'expelled' is a term used when a Brother is removed from the Craft by the Grand Lodge.
