How does a member formally resign from a Lodge?

A member may formally resign from a Lodge by notifying such resignation either through a written notice to the Secretary or orally at a regular meeting of the Lodge. According to Rule 158, if the resignation is provided in writing, the Secretary will communicate this to the Lodge at the next regular meeting. The resignation takes effect from the time of receipt of the written notice or immediately if communicated orally, or at a specified later date if indicated.

It is important to note that no acceptance of the resignation is necessary. The resignation is considered irrevocable once notified, with the following exceptions: if a majority of the members present and voting desire the member to withdraw their resignation within twenty-one days, it may be canceled if the member withdraws before that period ends; and if the resignation is communicated after a notice has been served for exclusion from the Lodge, it cannot be withdrawn.
