How many degrees are in Freemasonry?
Freemasonry traditionally comprises three primary degrees: the Entered Apprentice, the Fellow Craft, and the Master Mason. However, there are additional degrees available in various branches of Freemasonry. For instance, the Scottish Rite includes 33 degrees, while the York Rite has its own set of degrees culminating in the Knights Templar degree. The Craft degrees are considered sufficient for many Masons, while others may pursue additional degrees for further knowledge and experience.
As noted in The Hidden Life in Freemasonry, "the majority of masculine Freemasons hold that the Craft comprises only the three Degrees of E.A., F.C., and M.M., though in English Masonry they allow the Mark Degree and the Holy Royal Arch as nominally extensions of the Second and Third Degrees respectively" .
