Why is a part of the Installation Ceremony done with only Past Masters in the Temple?
The practice of conducting certain portions of the Installation Ceremony exclusively with Past Masters is deeply rooted in Masonic tradition and serves to symbolize the transfer of authority. This solemn ritual allows the newly installed Master to benefit from the experience and wisdom of those who have previously held the gavel. As noted by Albert Pike in Morals and Dogma, "The Master of the Lodge is the representative of the Master Builder of the universe." Past Masters, having fulfilled this role themselves, are uniquely qualified to impart the necessary knowledge and confer the full rights and privileges of the office upon their successor. This practice ensures the continuity and integrity of the Craft, as emphasized in the Book of Constitutions.
