What are the qualifications for becoming a Grand Master?

According to the Constitution, to qualify for the position of Grand Master, a brother must:

  • Be a Fellowcraft prior to his election.
  • Possess merit and be of singularly great reputation in the opinion of the Lodges.
  • Be nobly born, a gentleman of good fashion, an eminent scholar, or a notable artist descended from honest parents.

Additionally, a Grand Master has the authority to choose his own Deputy Grand Master, who must be or have previously been the Master of a particular Lodge.

These details can be referenced from the Constitution under Rule number IV (of Masters, Wardens, Fellows and Apprentices).
