What are the qualifications for being elected as Master of a Lodge?

To be elected as Master of a Lodge, a candidate must meet the following qualifications:

  • Must be a Past Master or have served for at least one year in the office of Senior Warden or Junior Warden in a regular Lodge.
  • Must be a member of the Lodge and in good standing.
  • The election is conducted by ballot, and the candidate receiving the largest number of votes from the members present is elected.

These qualifications ensure that the Master has the necessary experience and standing within the Lodge to effectively lead and uphold the traditions of Freemasonry.

As stated in the Constitution, “Every daughter Lodge shall annually, on the day named in its bye-laws for the purpose, proceed to elect a Master by ballot from among those of its members who are Past Masters within the meaning of Rule 9 or who have served for one year in the office of Senior Warden or Junior Warden in a regular Lodge warranted under the Grand Lodge”.
