What is an appropriate time for a Master Mason to consider joining the Mark or Royal Arch degrees?
As a Master Mason, the decision to pursue further degrees, such as those in the Mark Master Mason or Royal Arch Mason, is a personal one, often guided by a desire for deeper understanding and continued Masonic fellowship. There isn't a prescribed timeline, but many Masons find that after a period of active participation and reflection as a Master Mason, they feel ready to explore these additional avenues of Masonic knowledge.
The Mark Master Mason degree, for instance, is often seen as a natural progression, building upon the lessons of the Craft degrees. Similarly, the Royal Arch degree is considered by many to be the completion of "pure" ancient Masonry. As Albert Pike states in Morals and Dogma, the Royal Arch "completes the Master's degree." Therefore, a Master Mason might consider these degrees when they feel a strong inclination to delve further into the symbolism and teachings of Freemasonry, and to enjoy the camaraderie of those who have also advanced in their Masonic journey.
