What is Quatuor Coronati?
The term Quatuor Coronati translates to “Four Crowned Ones” and refers to a group of four craftsmen named Claudius, Castorius, Simphorianus, and Nicostratus, who were known for their exceptional skills in the art of stone carving. According to legend, they were martyred for their Christian faith during the reign of the Roman Emperor Diocletian. The Quatuor Coronati are also associated with a Masonic Lodge, Quatuor Coronati Lodge No. 2076, established in London in 1886, which is dedicated to Masonic research and the study of Masonic history. This lodge is recognized as one of the foremost Masonic research lodges and has contributed significantly to the understanding of Masonic traditions and history.
As noted in the paper titled Quatuor Coronati, “The name of the Lodge is taken from lines 497 - 534 of the Regius Poem, one of the oldest Masonic documents.”
