What is the origins of the Universal Brotherhood Day?
Universal Brotherhood Day (UBD) originated from a resolution passed on 8th May 2004 during the VII World Conference of Masonic Grand Lodges held in Santiago, Chile. The delegates unanimously agreed that all Grand Lodges and their members should celebrate the Summer Solstice, specifically on 24th June, known as St. John the Baptist’s Day, as Universal Brotherhood Day. This day was chosen to recognize and celebrate the fundamental Masonic principle of a Brotherhood of Man under the Fatherhood of God. The idea was proposed by the Grand Masters of several regions, including Chile and Luxembourg, and upon returning to India, the then Grand Master, M.W.Bro. Arun Chintopanth, O.S.M., directed all regions and lodges to commemorate this day through various activities, including charity programs and social gatherings to promote the values of Freemasonry.
