What is the procedure to start a new Lodge?
To start a new Lodge, the following procedure needs to be followed:
- The application for a Warrant to hold a new Lodge must be made by petition to the Grand Master, signed by at least seven Master Masons who are regularly registered under the Constitution of the Grand Lodge.
- Each petition must specify every Lodge to which each signatory belongs and must be accompanied by certificates showing that they are not indebted to their respective Lodges.
- A recommendation supporting the petition must be signed in open Lodge by the Master and Wardens of a regular daughter Lodge with majority approval from the attending Brethren.
- Notice of the petition must have been given on the summons convening the meeting where it will be considered.
- The completed petition should be sent to the Regional Grand Secretary, who will then obtain the observations of the Regional Grand Master and forward it to the Grand Secretary for the Grand Master's decision.
This information is detailed in the Constitution, specifically in Rule 77 which addresses the petition process.
