What is the structure of Masonic Lodges?
The government of a lodge rests upon a Master and two Wardens. This structure in the Craft derives historically from English trade guilds, where Wardens managed operations before the chief officer was designated as Master in the early seventeenth century. To qualify for election as Master, a Mason must first serve as a Warden, a rule established in the Old Charges.

What is the procedure to start a new Lodge?
A new lodge begins with a petition to the Grand Master signed by at least seven Master Masons, though John Dalcho historically argued three were sufficient. The petition must state that the signers are or were members of a regular lodge, assign a reason such as local convenience, specify a proposed name and meeting place, and nominate the first Master and Senior and Junior Wardens.
