What are the differences between ancient and modern lodge lectures?
Primitive or Andersonian lectures from the early eighteenth century were brief and differed in structure and symbolical explanation from later modern systems. In the First Degree, early lectures included details since omitted in standard modern usage—such as the duties of Entered Apprentices, the punishment of cowans, the "bone bonebox," the Master's clothing, the age of an Apprentice, and the direction of the wind. Conversely, early lectures omitted elements common to modern systems, such as the theological ladder, the parallel lines, and the traditional meeting places of ancient Freemasons.

what is the historical origin of the three lesser lights in craft masonry and how did their placement change over time
The origin of three lights surrounding a holy place is traced by Carl H. Claudy to ancient rites such as the Mysteries of Eleusis, where they represented the Sun, Moon, and Mercury. In the Craft, these lesser lights represent the Sun, Moon, and Worshipful Master.
