Anthony Sayer was elected as the first Grand Master on 24 June 1717, when four London lodges assembled at the Goose and Gridiron Tavern in Saint Paul's Churchyard. Chosen by a majority of hands as the oldest Master present, he served alongside Capt. Joseph Elliot and Jacob Lamball, who were elected as his Grand Wardens.

The first Royal Arch Grand Chapter, known as the Grand and Royal Chapter of the Royal Arch of Jerusalem, was constituted on 22 July 1766 under the Charter of Compact. It was established by Lord Blayney, Grand Master of the Premier Grand Lodge, alongside senior officers and members of an existing London Royal Arch Chapter, as articles on the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Freemasons website and the Provincial Grand Lodge of Buckinghamshire website record.
