How does someone join a lodge?
Joining a Masonic lodge begins with a candidate making an application or petition of his own free will, as Freemasonry traditionally does not solicit members. An applicant is proposed by a lodge member who submits the candidate's name, age, occupation, and place of residence, along with a monetary deposit. The Grand Lodge of Iowa states on its website that candidates must meet fundamental qualifications, such as being of lawful age, living a moral life, and holding a belief in a Supreme Being.
